The Background

2010 What a year!

Personally, 2010 wasn’t all bad. A lot of things happened in 2010 that will stay with me forever.

I know this is not the case for everyone, for most the credit crunch continued, mortgages almost completely dried up.

The housing market bubble burst big time. First time buyers can now afford a property in many areas of the UK, however they now cant afford the 20 – 35% deposit that most of the High Street lenders are willing to offer. If you’re interested in a review of the UK throughout 2010 follow this link to This is money

I thought I was in an industry that was pretty safe from cuts, where I had security, and a large income to cover all of my outgoings and then some savings also. All in all a very fortunate position.

This all changed in November 2010 when I discovered I would be taking a pay cut come the New Year, not a massive one, but one large enough to make me think twice about some of the usual weekly and monthly expenses I took for granted.

For a long time I’ve wanted to start my own business although that has been lost on me over the last 4 or so years. Recently I got as far as to quote clients for work where I had no company or machinery to complete the job, only when I had orderes confirmed was I willing to shell out on the machinery and materials to complete the orders. Needless to say, as yet, I’ve got no company, no machinery, no orders, and importantly no extra money!

So this Double or Quits idea what’s it about?

Double or Quits came about in the week between Christmas and New Year, I was out with a friend, playing pool, and we had a good go at Hustling a couple of people who clearly didn’t like the colour of their own money, It was a simple bet, £5 on a game of pool. Easy I thought; and it was I won! After shaking hands congratulating each other and exchanging the all important £5 note. His mate shouted from accross the Pool table “double or quits mate.” Thinking about it for a short time, and I agreed, double or quits, If I win, I’ve gained myself £10, enough to pay for my night out (I’m a cheap date, cant you tell!?) If I loose, I walk away with nothing gained, but importantly nothing lost!

The whole idea of this Double or Quits thing is to take some risks, (which I’m not great at doing when it comes to making money) and the largest amount of money I have to bet, over the entire year is actually just £50. Anything else I make or loose along the way doesn’t cost me anything. I’m not counting on it to pay the bills, or put food on the table, so it’s OK to risk it.

To make this page easy to find, and easy for you, reader, to remember I’ve bought a web address it’ll be sat there at the top of your page right now. It didn’t cost me a great deal, however If you’d like to donate a whole £1 to payment for the Address, I promise I’ll update this site regularly to keep you up to speed on my progress, any ideas I’ve come up with along the way, and importantly for you – Things that you could do to make money that require even less of your time, as I’ve all ready proven they work!

The donation button should be somewhere over there on the right, don’t feel you have to dontate, It’s just a litle way of keeping me going with this site.

I’m a little like a Puppy, I need constant re-assurance that what I’m doing is good, and that you, the readers are interested in it you see!
